A&R, short for Artists & Repertoire, is a key department within a record label or music publishing company responsible for identifying, signing, and developing artists. They essentially act as scouts, finding new talent and nurturing both the artist's career and the music they create. A&R professionals also play a crucial role in the creative process, collaborating with artists and producers on recording, production, and marketing.
-A&R reps will actively seek out new artists, attending live shows, scouring the internet for emerging talent, and managing their own networks.
